The Shaping of a Christian Family: How My Parents Nurtured My Faith by Elisabeth Elliot: Second Semester Book Study Introduction and Schedule

The Shaping of a Christian Family, How My Parents Nurtured My Faith by Elisabeth Elliot is our next book study beginning January 13, 2021. Just as last semester, we’ll meet in the Preschool Chapel from 9-10 a.m. Reading the book is a plus, but not required; participation is voluntary. Our weekly sessions will summarize the reading for that week and will address impromptu questions that arise from discussion.“If you have gone a little way ahead of me, call back – ‘twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track.” This sentence is quoted from a poem (author unknown) and is written in the back of the book. As Elisabeth writes this book, her prayer is that this call back will encourage others on their parenting journey! We are blessed to have her pave the way for us. I am a fan of her devotion to the Lord and to her wisdom written on every page. The book begins by giving a background on her mother, Katharine G. Howard.  Its first 50 pages are biographical and offer a generational perspective. Don’t lose heart as the parenting part is coming!E.E. portrays her growing up years, and through family stories, she shares what her parents taught her on these topics: the Lord’s Day, trust, authority, obedience, timeliness, play, work, forgiveness, courtesy, the habit of order and hospitality, to name a few. Most importantly, she recalls her parents teaching her and her siblings by example. On January 13, we will discuss the Preface and Introduction and touch briefly on chapters 1-6. Second Semester Schedule:January13th– discuss pages 9-46 (Focus:  Preface & Introduction)20th -  discuss pages 47-65 (Ch. 7-9)27th– discuss pages 66-84 (Ch. 10-11)February3rd–  discuss pages 85-97 (Ch. 12-13)10th– discuss pages 98-105 (Ch. 14)17th– discuss pages 106-119 (Ch. 15-16)24th– discuss pages 120-137 (Ch. 17-18)March3rd– Spring Break10th– discuss pages 138-150 (Ch. 19-20)17th– discuss pages 151-159 (Ch. 21)24th– discuss pages 160-170 (Ch. 22)31st-  discuss pages 171-187 (Ch. 23-24)April7th– discuss pages 188-206 (Ch. 25-26)14th– discuss pages 207-220 (Ch. 27-28)21st– discuss pages 221-237 (Ch. 29-30)28th -  discuss pages 238-255 (Ch. 31, Afterword, Reading List for Parents)We hope you will join us!Here why I chose this book in my Mentoring Minute below![embed]https://youtu.be/dhWNXebQJ5M[/embed]
